Almaty Zoo

In the eastern part of Almaty, at the foot of the northern slope of the Kok-tobe Mountain, there is the Almaty State Zoological Park. In the western part of the zoo is adjacent to the city Park of Culture and Recreation. The Almaty Zoo is one of the favorite places of recreation for Almaty residents and guests of the southern capital. They are attracted here by the opportunity to communicate with wild animals-the inhabitants of the zoo, to walk in silence along the shady alleys, to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city and stress. Almaty Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It received its first visitors on November 7, 1937. On this square there is an exposition, which includes more than 3.5 thousand individuals of about 400 species of animals. All these animals are distributed across six sections of the exhibition. These are "Aquarium", "Exotarium", "Birds",
"Ungulates", "Predatory Mammals" and "Primates". The Almaty Zoo is a member of the authoritative organizations uniting many zoos of the world.
Since 1994 - member of EARAZA (Euro-Asian Regional Association
of Zoos and Aquariums).
Since 2002 – member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and
Aquariums), since 2017 – candidate member of EAZA.
Since 2002 — member of SEAZA (Southeast Asian Association
of Zoos and Aquariums).
In 2003, the zoo was admitted to the World Association of Zoos and
Aquariums (WAZA).
In addition, the Almaty Zoo is a member of the International
Association for Education and Training (IZE), the International System
for the Identification of Species (ISIS).
