The multimedia center of traditional music was opened in 2016 in honor of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 1000th anniversary of the city of Almaty.

Various local and composer schools are being formed on the vast territory of Kazakhstan. The names of Zhambyl Zhabayev, Dina Nurpeisova, Birzhan sal, Abai, Amre Kashaubayev, Kenen Azerbayev have entered the history of not only Kazakh, but also world music culture.
The creative activity of professional musicians of the 19th century, as a rule, was not limited only to the performing or composing sphere, but included all the variety of artistic forms – poetic improvisation, oratory, honed vocal technique, virtuoso possession of a musical instrument, elements of theatrical and circus performances
The exhibition of the Center presents unique memorial instruments of prominent figures of Kazakh art from the fund of the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments named after Ylas.
During the opening of the Elbasy Center, Nursultan Nazarbayev presented the center with his personal dombra and the sculpture “Steppe Melodies”, dedicated to the legendary performer of Kazakh kuys Dina Nurpeisova.
