The Kaskelen Gorge has been part of the Ile-Alatau State National Park for more than a decade. It is the westernmost in the chain of wooded spurs of the Trans-Ili Alatau, then the mountains lower, lose their spruce cover and become more like steppes.
The most notable attraction is the huge stone Uy-Tas, which lies on the very crest of the side ridge. This huge boulder consists of a monolithic block of gray granite without a single crack. Its height is about 5 m, diameter – 6 m, weight – more than 500 tons. It is noteworthy that there is not a single stone nearby! It seems as if this round-shaped stone fell directly from space, and scattered the earth in all directions. The stone is located as if in a pit with a depth of half a meter in the lower and one and a half meters in the upper part of the slope. Of course, it is not from outer space: apparently, it was brought by the oldest glacier from the mountain peaks, and the earth around it could be dug by people to conduct religious rites around the miracle stone. Nowhere else on the Tien Shan can you find such a huge, perfectly rounded stone without a single crack.
The right slope of the foothills of the gorge is wooded, there is an abundance of apricot, barberry and hawthorn, in addition, you can collect mushrooms.
On the way, you will get acquainted with the history and nature of this region, as well as visit the Museum of Mother Worship-which contains items of traditional life of the Kazakh family, the heart of which was a woman-mother, paintings dedicated to women.
