The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana is the largest and youngest museum in the Central Asia. The museum was created on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev within the framework of the state program “Cultural Heritage”.
The building of the National Museum of Kazakhstan is located on Independence Square – the main square of the country, harmoniously blending into a common architectural ensemble with such significant objects as the “Kazakh Eli” monument, the Palace of Independence, the Palace of Peace and Harmony, the National University of Arts and the mosque “Hazret Sultan”.
The National Museum of Kazakhstan has a unique fund of many values, revealed within the framework of the program “Cultural Heritage”. All exhibits are located on a huge territory – 11 exhibition halls, with a total area of more than 14,000 sq.m. The building of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is another attraction of the city – unusual shapes and stunning architectural solutions attract the views of thousands of tourists. The unique museum complex, with a total area of more than 74,000 square meters, consists of seven blocks, with variable storeys up to 9 floors.
The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan consists of the following halls: Astana Hall, Hall of Independent Kazakhstan, Halls of Gold, Hall of Ancient and Medieval History, Hall of History, Hall of Ethnography, Halls of Contemporary Art. The structure of the museum was developed by a research institute and is ideal for studying the national heritage of the Republic. The museum also provides separate rooms for a children’s museum, a children’s art center, two exhibition halls, restoration workshops, laboratories, professional depository facilities, a scientific library with a reading room, a conference hall, souvenir kiosks.
The first thing when you enter the museum is your the golden eagle that floats under the ceiling turns. The eagle is a symbol of freedom, fidelity and courage. It is better to start the inspection from the hall of Astana, in which there are awards, cups, gifts, photos of the President and guests of the capital. In the hall every hour there is a show – “Dynamic model of the central part of modern Astana”. On your eyes from the level of the floor there will grow the city in cubes in chronological order of construction of sightseeing places and residential complexes of the city. After the show, the layout is still maintained for a while, it’s so interesting that you have to see it with your own eyes.
The museum in Astana amazes with its technical equipment, which meets the world standards. For expositions there are used: a unique curved screen with special content, working for two halls, media floor, dynamic maquette of the central part of modern Astana, numerous media screens, holograms, LED technology, touch kiosks, multimedia guide with information in three languages and other modern exhibition technologies.
The National Museum of Kazakhstan is the venue for various excursions for residents and visitors of the capital – these are thematic and overview, specialized, philosophical, guided tours, constructed in a game form and interactive lessons.
The main goal set by the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is to establish it as the cradle of modern culture, a place for intellectual reflection, analysis, comparison, reasoning, statements and assessment of Kazakhstan’s historical and cultural heritage.
